Do you remember what it was
like not to have a cell phone? Or how about
the internet? Or the computer in general?
It's not too long that these items have
been wide spread. But it's weird how something
as simple as a cellular can change the way
you do things. Now the common response is
"I don't know what I would do without
it". Technology has a way of sneaking
up on you.
Before cellular phones people
had to find a pay phone to make a phone
call. There were less need to make contact
with people. There is those that believe
it's more convenient now. But it hasn't
been. There was never a need to always keep
tabs with everyone. Now there seems to be
a need to do so.
Even with something like the
internet. There are people who are glue
to it everyday. I've only picked up the
internet for my home the past few years
and it's a major form of communication for
me. Before that, I used it at work or school.
Even a few years before that I didn't even
use it at all. Five years ago, the internet
was a ten minute, once in a month use. Now,
I can't remember what I did to pass the
time.
The same goes with the computer.
My career path has put me in front of a
computer. I have only been using the computer
for the last ten years. But before that
I don't know what I would do if I'm not
typing away on the computer. I spend more
time on the computer in a month than I do
on anything else.
But try to think back at a
time without any of these new technological
advances and see what you would be doing
in replace of all that. It's actually harder
than one things. Your use to using all these
things and more on a daily basis that if
someone was to take one away, it would feel
odd. If possible, spend less time using
one of these things and spend your extra
time productively. You might start to realize
that all these technological advancements
aren't really helping you as much as you
would believe. |
